Washington: Childhood cancer survivors are living longer. Now research shows they are also less likely to develop second cancers while still young. The decline followed a sharp drop in the use of radiation therapy for treatment of childhood cancers.
New York (IANS): US scientists have created a promising second-generation antibiotic to combat bacteria that are a common cause of respiratory and other infections, including the sexually transmitted gonorrhoea disease.
Washington: Dr Deepa Bhojwani has joined Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) as director of the Leukaemia/Lymphoma programme within the Children’s Centre for Cancer and Blood Diseases. Dr Bhojwani received her undergraduate degree from St Xavier’s College, Mumbai, in 1987 and her medical degree from M S Ramaiah Medical College, Bangalore in 1993.
