National Health Policy 2017 aims to provide universal health coverage, quality healthcare at affordable cost

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday approved the National Health Policy, 2017 (NHP 2017), which aims to provide universal health coverage and deliver quality healthcare services at affordable cost to all the people of the country.

Mukherjee reiterates need for increasing expenditure in health sector

New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday reiterated the need for increasing the expenditure in health sector saying the public health expenditure in India is just 1.2 per cent of GDP, which is much lower than US, UK, Norway, Brazil, etc.

India spends 4.2% of its GDP on healthcare

According to World Health Statistics 2011 published by World Health Organisation (WHO), the public and private expenditure on health as percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) in India was 1.36 per cent and 2.84 per cent respectively, in 2008.
