New Delhi: Cancer specialist Dr Vishwanathan Shanta has been selected for Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award after Bharat Ratna, while gastroenterologist Dr D Nageshwar Reddy has been named for Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian award. They are among the 112 notable personalities to get Padma awards in 2016.

Chennai: Dr Balu Sankaran (85), a noted orthopaedic surgeon best known for setting up the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), Kanpur in 1972, passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness here.
