Doctors’ overseas trips financed by pharma companies cannot be accepted as legal, says Income Tax Tribunal

“The payment of overseas trips of doctors and their spouses for entertainment, by the pharma company, in lieu of expectation of getting patient referrals from doctors for its products so as to generate more business and profits, by any stretch of imagination cannot be accepted as legal.”

Doctors must notify every Japanese Encephalitis case to local authority

Kala Azar declared a notifiable disease

Healthcare Global Enterprises, GE Healthcare to set up cancer care centre in Bangalore

Bangalore: Healthcare Global Enterprises (HCG) and GE Healthcare on Wednesday announced a new partnership agreement to work together and elevate cancer care infrastructure in India. An initial pilot project setting up a cancer care centre in Bangalore will be the first step in this direction and GE will be the technology partner in this endeavour. This new partnership adds to the existing collaboration between GE and HCG on cancer biomarkers for improved cancer management.

Tuberculosis declared a notifiable disease

New Delhi: India has declared tuberculosis (TB) a notifiable disease. The move makes it mandatory for all clinical establishments run or managed by the government, private or NGO sectors, and individual medical practitioners treating a patient suffering from TB to report every single case of the air-borne disease to the government. Till now, doctors in the private sector were free to treat TB patients, and were not required to keep a record.

ICMR urges government to make cancer a notifiable disease

New Delhi: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has recommended to the union health ministry to make cancer a “notifiable disease”. Now, highly infectious diseases like plague, polio, H5N1 (bird flu), H1N1 (swine flu) figure in the list. Cancer may become the first non-communicable disease (NCD) to be bracketed under the same category.
