Chennai hospital ordered to pay Rs 3 lakh for wrongly diagnosing TEN as measles

New Delhi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has directed Billroth Hospitals, Chennai to pay Rs 3 lakh as compensation for wrongly diagnosing and treating a 15-year-old boy for measles, instead of toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), leading to his death.

22 million infants miss out basic vaccines: WHO

New Delhi (IANS): Around 22 million infants across the globe still miss out on the basic vaccines for diphtheria, hepatitis B, measles, mumps and tetanus. And out of this, nine million infants live in the Southeast Asian region, World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Regional Director Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh said here on Thursday.

Mission Indradhanush launched with an aim to achieve full immunization by 2020

New Delhi: Health Minister J P Nadda launched ‘Mission Indradhanush’ here on Thursday. The Mission Indradhanush, depicting seven colours of the rainbow, aims to cover all those children by 2020 who are either unvaccinated or are partially vaccinated against seven vaccine preventable diseases which include diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, tuberculosis (TB), measles and hepatitis B.

Washington: A measles vaccine made of fine dry powder and delivered with a puff of air triggered no adverse side effects in early human testing and it is likely effective, according to a paper published in the journal Vaccine.

Vaccine against Rubella to be rolled out from June

New Delhi: The union health ministry has decided to introduce a combination vaccine that will protect children against both measles and Rubella in its national immunization programme. The combination vaccine will be rolled out from June. Both pregnant women and children will be vaccinated with it.
