Indian scientists developing a diagnostic algorithm for female genital TB

Hyderabad: Genital tuberculosis (TB) is one of the major causes of tubal infertility. Studies show that only two per cent of women with genital TB have live births. Genital TB is usually asymptomatic so needs higher degree of clinical suspicion so that accurate and confirmed diagnosis of TB can be made and standard anti-TB treatment provided as early as possible. But the challenge is that current range of standard diagnostic tests are less likely to pick up every case of genital TB.

Andhra Pradesh High Court asks MCI to grant additional seats in Telangana medical colleges

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday directed the Medical Council of India (MCI) to grant 50 additional MBBS seats each to three medical colleges under Osmania University and Kakatiya University, located in Telangana region of the state.

Doctors acting as a rubber stamp for drug companies?

New Delhi: A report by the parliamentary standing committee for health and family welfare, which looked at the functioning of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), reveals that some drug companies have been writing scientific recommendations of their own products and submitting them to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) after getting them endorsed by top doctors for a quicker marketing approval.
