New surgery for easy knee replacement

New Delhi: Surinder Rawat, a physical education teacher who had rheumatoid arthritis, got a new lease of life after doctors here performed a replacement surgery on both her knees using a new technology, a doctor said on Tuesday.

Doctors acting as a rubber stamp for drug companies?

New Delhi: A report by the parliamentary standing committee for health and family welfare, which looked at the functioning of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), reveals that some drug companies have been writing scientific recommendations of their own products and submitting them to the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) after getting them endorsed by top doctors for a quicker marketing approval.

Surgeons conduct north India’s first cartilage transplant

“The patient suffered a knee injury and was on the verge of losing mobility. Doctors conducted a cartilage surgery where we obtained cartilage cells (cells that make up the tissues) from a healthy part and re-implanted them into the patient’s injured part after harvesting them in a culture lab,” said Dr Raju Vaishya, senior consultant, orthopaedic and joint replacement department at Apollo Hospitals.

Apollo Hospital doctors perform knee replacement surgery on 92-year-old man

In a rare operation, a team of doctors from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi successfully replaced the knees of a 92-year-old man who was unable to walk after arthritis deformed both his knees. The bilateral total knee arthroplasty was carried out on S N Bhatt, who came all the way from Durg district in Chhattisgarh.
