MCI removes limits on number of attempts, upper age for appearing in NEET UG

New Delhi: There will be no limit on the number of attempts for a candidate in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) or the maximum age at which he or she can appear in the test, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has said.

MCI summons 300 doctors accused of receiving kickbacks from a pharma firm

New Delhi: The Medical Council of India (MCI) has summoned about 300 doctors from across the country to Delhi to answer questions on an anonymous complaint that they had been bribed by a pharmaceutical company to prescribe its drugs.

Low-cost ultrasound machines may help reduce maternal mortality in rural areas

New Delhi: In one of the US Government’s Department of Health and Human Services’ reports for grants and guides, there has been a mention of the prerequisite of developing handheld ultrasound devices, especially for the detection of abscesses of lymph node enlargement, applicable to patients with HIV positive or negative. However, the need of ultrasound in medical services is huge as it is most popularly used for basic screening of high-risk pregnancies, cardiac, vascular, radiology, endocrinology and paediatric purposes.

Govt urged to remove MCI vice president for issuing false medical certificate

New Delhi: In an attempt to point out yet another irregularity in the selection of the newly elected Medical Council of India (MCI), Dr Kunal Saha, the NRI medical practitioner who is waging a crusade against corruption in the medical field, has identified that the newly elected MCI vice president, Dr C V Bhirmanandham, was previously found guilty of doing an unethical act to help a top political leader in Tamil Nadu. Dr Saha obtained the information from the state health department through some documents received under the RTI Act.

Dr Jayshree Ben Mehta elected unopposed as President of MCI

New Delhi: Dr Jayshree Ben Mehta, former vice chancellor of Sumandeep University, Waghodia (Vadodara, Gujarat), has been elected unopposed as president of the Medical Council of India (MCI). Dr C V Bhirmanandham, former vice chancellor of Dr M G R Health University, Chennai (Tamil Nadu) has been elected unopposed as vice president of the MCI.
