New Delhi: India’s highest civilian awards, the Padma awards, would be conferred on 127 eminent people, including 27 doctors of modern medicine. They will receive the awards from President Pranab Mukherjee at a function in New Delhi in March or April, it was announced here on Saturday, on the eve of the 65th Republic Day.
Retired professor J R Verma, 91, underwent a second knee replacement surgery four months ago. But the only signs of old age this Delhiite carries are a walking stick and a deeply wrinkled skin. He is active and on his way to recovery.
