Human Rights Commission directs Medical Council to suspend or cancel licence of negligent surgeon

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has directed the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) to suspend or cancel the licence of Dr Mannan Singh whose negligence led to a 32-year-old patient lose his leg following amputation.

Safdarjung Hospital’s doctors treat totally ruptured knee without using any implant

New Delhi: Doctors at the Central Institute of Orthopaedics, Safdarjung Hospital on Friday performed a rare arthroscopic surgery involving only four stitches to get an 18-year-old patient with totally ruptured knee stand on his feet again. Doctors at other hospitals had said amputation was the only option in this case.

Opinion: Expect Rs 20 lakh compensation for extravasation of IV fluids causing cellulitis and gangrene leading to amputation

It is frequent in wards of hospitals to see patients developing extravasation of drugs and fluids into sub-cutaneous tissue leading to thrombophlebitis, swelling, discolouration, cellulitis, compartment syndrome, gangrene rarely leading to amputation. Honourable Supreme Court in August 2014 in a case involving Manipal Hospital and now Bombay High Court on 21st December 2015 in a case involving a Municipal Corporation Hospital have established a benchmark compensation of approximately Rs 20 lakh for such cases.
