Surat: Three resident doctors of Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research (SMIMER) were on Friday suspended for six months by the institute’s disciplinary committee for throwing a poor patient out of the hospital last year.
Dr Taral Chaudhary, Dr Saumya Iyer and Dr Sapadia will have to do social work in the institute’s trauma centre but they will neither be able to do medical practice nor will they be able to attend or take any lectures, reports ToI.
On October 5, 2016, a patient, who confessed to be a beggar, was brought to the SMIMER hospital by an ambulance. However, instead of treating him, the three doctors dumped the patient outside the hospital. The incident was recorded on the hospital’s CCTV camera. The same patient was brought to the SMIMER hospital by an ambulance again. This was when the entire incident came to light.
