PMCH becomes first government hospital in Bihar to start MRI service

Patna: Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Monday became the first government hospital of the state to start MRI service. Nalanda Medical College & Hospital (NMCH) and Darbhanga Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) are also expected to start the service under public-private partnership (PPP) mode in two months. The machine at PMCH is of 1.5 Tesla capacity.

Scimed, a Patna-based private firm that had bagged the contract for installing the MRI machine at PMCH, would operate the machine round the clock and provide services on first come first serve basis to patients referred from both government and private hospitals. However, patients from government hospitals would be given preference, reports ToI quoting a state official.

For DMCH and NMCH, the contract has been bagged by Medanta Hospital. Most of the terms and conditions of the contract are same as that of PMCH. The only difference is that the patients of private hospitals would have to pay market prices to avail the facility at these two hospitals. Medanta Hospital has also bagged the contract to install CT scan machine in NMCH.
