Bill to ban commercial surrogacy introduced in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, Health Minister J P Nadda on Monday introduced the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 in the Lok Sabha, reports Hindu Business Line.

The Bill seeks to ban commercial surrogacy, protect poor women from exploitation and ensure the rights of the child born through surrogacy.

It proposes to bar married couples who have biological or adopted children, gays, live-in partners and single people from opting for surrogacy.

The Bill entitles only Indian citizens to avail themselves of surrogacy and specifies that a woman can be a surrogate only once in her lifetime.
