Centre may bring ordinance to bypass Supreme Court ruling on NEET

New Delhi: The Centre is reportedly exploring the possibility of bringing an ordinance to bypass the Supreme Court ruling that has made the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory for students seeking admission into MBBS and BDS courses anywhere in the country.

The ordinance the Centre is planning is for this year, for the benefit of students who did not get time to prepare for the national exam that was made mandatory at the last minute. It would take a long-term decision on the NEET later, reports The Telegraph quoting ‘highly placed sources’ in the government.

In view of the concerns expressed about the common national exam by MPs from across parties, the government hopes the ordinance route would be widely acceptable and that when it brings a bill in the next session of Parliament, it would have smooth passage.
