NEET to be held this year in two phases, 1st phase on May 1

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday approved a proposal put forward by the Centre and the Medical Council of India (MCI) to hold the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses of medical and dental colleges across the country this year in two phases.

The All India Pre-Medical & Pre-Dental Entrance Test – AIPMT, 2016, scheduled to be conducted on May 1 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be treated as the first phase of NEET. The second phase (NEET-2) will be held on July 24 and the combined result would be declared on August 17.

Earlier an NGO, Sankalp Charitable Trust, had filed a PIL before the apex court complaining that although a five-judge constitution bench on April 11 had restored the common exam, the authorities were deliberately delaying its conduct, which would only help private medical colleges fleece students.
