New Delhi. Dr Bipin Batra, executive director, National Board of Examinations (NBE) and Dr Prakash P Kotwal, professor and head of the orthopaedics department, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi have been honoured with the 26th T P Jhunjhunwala National Excellence Award for their outstanding contribution to the field of higher medical education and reconstructive orthopaedic surgery respectively.
Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani presented the Awards to Dr Batra and Dr Kotwal at a function held here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister laid emphasis on the need to develop a holistic education programme suited to the needs of the citizens of the country.
Dr Yatish Agarwal and Shila Jhunjhunwala, trustees of the T P Jhunjhunwala Foundation, spoke about the philanthropic and missionary contribution of the Foundation in the field of care of the disabled, healthcare and education.
With a doctorate in radiodiagnosis and a master’s degree in public health and management, Prof Bipin Batra is a global thought leader in the field of higher medical education, according to a statement.
A gifted clinician and a teacher who stands deeply committed to patient care, Prof Prakash Kotwal has made significant contribution to clinical research. He has authored and edited a number of works, and has been a recipient of the Paul R Manske International Award for the year 2013 celebrating his work on congenital malformations of the upper extremities, the statement said.
The award ceremony was followed by a live Sufi concert by Ankit Batra and his band the Soulful Raaga.
