Government to map health facilities, doctors, chemists in all districts

New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry, in partnership with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, is reportedly planning to map government and private health facilities, doctors, specialists and chemists available in all districts of the country.

The health geo-mapping project has already been completed in four districts — Hazaribagh (Jharkhand), Vellore (Tamil Nadu), Dungarpur (Rajasthan) and Dimapur (Nagaland) — chosen as a pilot, reports Indian Express.

Lack of authentic data on healthcare resources has long been one of the biggest impediments to health planning in India. “But that will change now with the availability of real-time data,” a senior official associated with the project has been quoted as saying.
