New Delhi: The union health ministry has directed Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and the associated Safdarjung Hospital here to work towards implementing 48 hours per week duties of its senior and junior resident doctors.
According to Dr Rajpal, medical superintendent, Safdarjung Hospital and VMMC, the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) in a meeting held on March 13 directed the college to find out the number of additional senior residents and junior residents needed to hire in order to implement the 48 hours per week duties of SRs and JRs.
The meeting was held to discuss the issues of Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA).
In a circular dated March 14, Dr Rajpal has asked the head of departments to calculate the number of additional Senior Residents and Junior Residents “as early as possible” so that this may be sent to the DGHS, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to increase the additional seats of Senior Residents and Junior Residents so that they should work 48 hours per week. “This should be given priority and sent within a week time positively,” he wrote.
