Jaipur: The Association of Radiation Oncologists of India (AROI) has honoured veteran radiation oncologists Dr Pannalal Nawalkha with the Life Time Achievement Award and Dr Dharam Pal Punia with the Legendary Leadership Award at its recent 33rd annual national conference AROICON 2011 held at B M Birla Science and Technology Centre, Jaipur on November 24-27, 2011.
Dr P L Nawalkha, former principal and controller of Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College, Jaipur and senior professor of radiotherapy, Rajasthan Medical Education Department, was honoured for his efforts to bring up radiotherapy to the level optimal services in Rajasthan during his tenure from 1965 to 1996. He has also served as honorary adviser of Armed Forces Medical Services.
Dr Dharam Pal Punia, former principal of Sardar Patel Medical College, Bikaner was honoured for bringing a regional cancer centre in the city. His more than ten years tenure as principal of SP Medical College, Bikaner and Dr Sampurnanand Medical College, Jodhpur is considered as a boon for the growth of cancer care services for poor. Dr Punia is currently principal of Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Medical College, Jaipur.
