CAT stays health ministry order denying NPA to PGIMER faculty

Chandigarh: The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has stayed the union health ministry’s order of denying non-practicing allowance (NPA) to faculty members of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), who have retired before 2006.

The double bench of CAT comprising of Justice S D Anand and Justice Khushiram, admitted the petition and granted interim relief to the petitioners Dr S M Bose and 42 other faculty members of PGIMER, by staying the government order. CAT has listed the case for next hearing on January 5, 2012.

In 2009, the health ministry stopped paying NPA to the faculty members retired before 2006 following the publication of 6th Pay Commission report. According to petitioners, this led to gross discrepancy in the pension amount that was paid to the faculty members retiring before and after 2006. [Source: Pioneer]
