The empowered technical sub-committee for the selection of new director of Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, has shortlisted four candidates for the final selection, which is expected to be made on April 21 before the incumbent director Dr K K Talwar retires on April 30.
The shortlisted candidates are Dr Amod Gupta, head of ophthalmology, PGIMER; Dr Digambar Behera, professor, pulmonary medicine, PGIMER; Dr Raj Bahadur, director, Government Medical College and Hospital, Chandigarh and Dr A K Mahapatra, head of neurosurgery, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
The committee that made these initial selections included K Chandramouli, secretary, health and family welfare ministry; Dr V M Katoch, secretary, medical research; Dr P Satish Chandra, director, NIMHANS, Bangalore; and Dr Rajan A Badwe, director, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. [Source: Tribune]
Another major candidate has entered contention for the post of PGIMER director. His name is Dr V K Paul, head of paediatric department at AIIMS, New Delhi. At 56 years of age Dr Paul is the youngest in the race for the director’s post and might steal the show, reports Times of India quoting sources.
