New Delhi: Dr Kunal Saha whose petition against the West Bengal Medical Council for not taking any disciplinary action against Dr Sukumar Mukherjee considered responsible for the death of Dr Saha’s wife, Anuradha Saha, was rejected by the Supreme Court on Friday, has said he will file a review petition against the court’s decision.
In what has been deemed as the case which divided the medical fraternity into two blocs over the last two decades, the final nail comes with a sigh of relief to one section whereas it is a disappointment to the other.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday asked US-based Dr Kunal Saha, who lost his wife in 1998 in Kolkata due to medical negligence and subsequently won a record compensation from the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) against the hospital and the negligent doctors but still continued to pursue the case for cancellation of practice licence of those doctors, to let his wife’s soul rest in peace.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday awarded Rs 6,08,00,550 compensation to Dr Kunal Saha, an Indian-American doctor, ordering the Kolkata-based Advanced Medicare Research Institute (AMRI) to pay for medical negligence resulting in the death of his wife Anuradha Saha in 1988.
The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has awarded a compensation of Rs 1.73 crore to be paid by three Kolkata doctors — Dr Sukumar Mukherjee, Dr Baidyanath Halder and Dr Balaram Prasad — and the Advanced Medicare Research Institute (AMRI) hospital in Kolkata to US-based Dr Kunal Saha for the death of his wife Anuradha Saha while undergoing treatment at the hospital in 1998.
