The Vizag Case Exposes More Gaps in Surrogacy Bill

Following the recent Vizag IVF Centre case, the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill 2016 may need reconsideration towards integrating legal safeguards. The case in hand brings forth a series of grave biomedical and ethical issues as lack of comprehensive physical and psycho-social counselling to all the stakeholders involved in surrogacy namely surrogate mother, intending mother father, egg donor before the initiation of surrogacy under the Surrogacy Bill.

Opinion: Sad to see lawmakers’ total apathy towards the most marginalized section of the society

My disdain for the contemporary politics is no longer a secret. From my columns here and elsewhere, readers would also recognize that one of the major reasons I hold the current lot of politicians entrusted with the task of governance is their total apathy to the major health concerns that continue to bedevil our country.

Over 42000 pledges for organ donation received by NOTTO

New Delhi: The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) has so far received 42,570 pledges for donation of human organs such as liver, kidney, heart and tissues, according to Union Minister of State for Health, Shripad Yesso Naik.

Government not to issue NORI certificate to stem brain drain of doctors

New Delhi: In order to check brain drain of doctors, the government has decided not to issue the No Obligation to Return to India (NORI) Certificate to doctors in any circumstance, except for those who are above 65 years of age.

Is it illegal for doctors registered in a State Medical Register to practise medicine in another state?

New Delhi: Union Health Minister J P Nadda recently stated in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha that the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956, prohibits a person other than a medical practitioner enrolled on a State Medical Register to practice medicine in the State.
