Hospital fined Rs 7 lakh for not taking consent before inserting catheter in a patient

New Delhi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has held Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research guilty of negligence for not taking consent before inserting a catheter for central venous line procedure in a patient and directed the Delhi-based hospital to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to him.

Human Rights Commission directs Medical Council to suspend or cancel licence of negligent surgeon

Chennai hospital ordered to pay Rs 3 lakh for wrongly diagnosing TEN as measles

Apollo Hospital, doctor directed to pay Rs 4 lakh to deceased patient’s family for medical negligence

New Delhi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has directed Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad and one of its doctors, Dr J M Gurunath, to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to Telangana resident K S Sastry whose wife died on November 24, 2000 due to alleged medical negligence.

Opinion: What are we congratulating?

It is indeed creditable that due to actions taken by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) executives an inter-ministerial meeting was formed in November 2015 to look at the demands raised by the association. This, in itself, was a huge plus. However, to claim that the results of these inter-ministerial meetings have been a successful intervention by IMA is far from the truth.

SGPGI to pay Rs 15.65 lakh for causing death due to wrong medication and failing to maintain proper records
