Hospital fined Rs 7 lakh for not taking consent before inserting catheter in a patient

New Delhi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has held Sitaram Bhartia Institute of Science and Research guilty of negligence for not taking consent before inserting a catheter for central venous line procedure in a patient and directed the Delhi-based hospital to pay a compensation of Rs 7 lakh to him.

Human Rights Commission directs Medical Council to suspend or cancel licence of negligent surgeon

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) has directed the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) to suspend or cancel the licence of Dr Mannan Singh whose negligence led to a 32-year-old patient lose his leg following amputation.

Opinion: What are we congratulating?

It is indeed creditable that due to actions taken by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) executives an inter-ministerial meeting was formed in November 2015 to look at the demands raised by the association. This, in itself, was a huge plus. However, to claim that the results of these inter-ministerial meetings have been a successful intervention by IMA is far from the truth.

SGPGI to pay Rs 15.65 lakh for causing death due to wrong medication and failing to maintain proper records

Doctor ordered to pay Rs 10 lakh as compensation for transplanting ‘tainted’ kidney

Kolkata neurosurgeon, hospital directed to pay Rs 25 lakh for botched brain surgery

Kolkata: The West Bengal Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed Dr Alok Kumar Khan and the Calcutta Medical Complex Nursing Home to pay a compensation of Rs 25 lakh and a litigation fee of Rs 50,000 to the widow of a patient who died due to a botched brain surgery and follow up treatment by Dr Khan.

Gynaecologist to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation for removing wrong reproductive organ

Bhopal: Bhopal district consumer forum has directed Dr Pushpa Gour to pay a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to Maya Gupta, 32, who lost her privilege to be a mother after the Bhopal-based gynaecologist removed her healthy right ovary and uterus instead of the infected left one.
