Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court has imposed a sentence for one-year and a fine of Rs 5,000 on Dr Hanumantharayappa, a senior specialist at M G Hospital, Chikkamagalur, who was found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Government doctor gets 4-year jail for demanded Rs 20,000 in bribe

Pune: Dr Sujata Madhukar Pardeshi (50), a lady medical officer heading the malaria cell at the district health office in Yerawada, has been sentenced to four-year imprisonment by a special court for demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 in June 2014 from Vikas Shivaji Londhe.

Civil Surgeon nabbed while taking Rs 1 lakh bribe

Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Tuesday caught Dr Ashok Kumar Singh, civil surgeon of Rohtas district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs one lakh. Dr Singh was nabbed from his office in Rohtas.

CBI registers case against ‘fake’ doctors

New Delhi: The CBI has registered a case against eight doctors and unknown officials of the Medical Council of India (MCI) on the allegations that said doctors, who were possessing a primary medical qualification awarded by medical institutions outside India, in conspiracy with unknown officials of the MCI, obtained false permanent registration certificates, purportedly shown to have been issued by the MCI.

NGO asks health minister to remove 17 doctors from the new MCI

New Delhi: The People for Better Treatment (PBT) president Dr Kunal Saha has sent a letter to union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in which he has urged the government to remove the names of 17 nominated or elected doctors from the new MCI (Medical Council of India) who helped Dr Ketan Desai in becoming the MCI president in 2009.

The Great Indian Hospital

In one corner of a huge, dimly lit emergency room (ER) of a public hospital in India, a young doctor is struggling in perhaps the most miserable conversation of his life; communicating the death of a patient to their loved ones is a ‘skill’ doctors take time to master. Dr Ketan Desai to represent Gujarat medical colleges in MCI

Ahmedabad: The Gujarat University senate has nominated Dr Ketan Desai, former president of the Medical Council of India (MCI) and head of the urology department at B J Medical College, as the university’s representative member to the MCI.
