Passive euthanasia not enough, say activists

New Delhi (IANS): The death on Monday of Aruna Shanbaug, the nurse who lived in a vegetative state in a Mumbai hospital for 42 long years, has renewed the debate on euthanasia, with some demanding that the judiciary and the government should engage on the issue proactively.

23 organs harvested in a day at Chennai hospital

Chennai (IANS): In a rare operation, the Chennai-based Apollo Hospitals has harvested 23 different organs from five brain-dead donors to give a new lease of life to 23 needy patients, an official said on Wednesday.

Maharashtra hospitals need to inform organ transplant centres about brain dead patients

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has decided to make it mandatory for hospitals to inform organ transplant centres through divisional transplant co-ordination committees about brain dead patients in their wards.
