Apollo Hospital, doctor directed to pay Rs 4 lakh to deceased patient’s family for medical negligence

New Delhi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) has directed Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad and one of its doctors, Dr J M Gurunath, to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to Telangana resident K S Sastry whose wife died on November 24, 2000 due to alleged medical negligence.

Jayalalithaa’s hospital bill might have crossed Rs 80 crore

Chennai: According to an estimate, the hospital bill of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai for treatment on September 22 and was declared dead by the hospital on December 5, might have crossed Rs 80 crore-mark during the 75-days period.

Global medical tourism market expected to reach $32.5 billion in 2019

Washington: A market study recently released by Transparency Market Research (TMR) estimates the global medical tourism market to rise at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 17.90% from 2013 to 2019 and reach a value of $32.5 billion by the end of 2019.

Hyderabad: The number of patients from abroad visiting India for treatment has been growing by 23 to 25 per cent per annum. The Indian Medical Tourism market is expected to grow from $3 billion (2015) to $7-8 billion by 2020.
