MCI seeks feedback on core syllabus for MBBS common entrance test

Sunday, July 24, 2011

Medical Council of India (MCI) is seeking feedback on a common core syllabus for MBBS entrance examination. The feedback can be submitted till August 11, following which the syllabus for physics, chemistry and biology will be finalised.

The syllabus for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for undergraduates (NEET-UG) for admission to MBBS has been prepared by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

The common entrance test for admission to undergraduate medical courses for the academic year 2012-13 will be conducted across the country in May 2012. The NEET-PG and NEET-SS for postgraduate and super speciality medical courses is scheduled for January-February 2012 and June 2012, respectively.

The modalities for NEET-PG and NEET-SS are being worked out, according to Dr Sangeeta Sharma, secretary, MCI. There are 42,000 seats for undergraduate medical courses and 20,600 seats for postgraduate medical courses in the country, including those from private medical colleges. [Source: Hindu]

Sir

I am verymuch happy to interducing National wide Medical Enterence from your Dept.
But you are giving impartence to Physics than Botany, but for Medicine Botany,Zoology and Chemistry are ver much usefull thank Physics. This pattern is useful to Central School Students not Reginol Students. Please give equal importance to Botany and Zoolog also.
Please think and implement to usefull all over India.
With viogarously waiting for this system

The new syllabus focuses more on physics and chemistry rather than biology which is more important for medical courses. The syllabus of physics and chemistry should be limited whereas the biology syllabus should be expanded. Medically important topics such as animal physiology should be included whereas less important topics such as diversity in living world, structural organisation in plants and plant physiology should be removed. In other words, more stress should be given to biology rather than physics and chemistry. The common entrance exam should be held from the 2012-2013 session rather than 2011-2012 session as aspiring candidates are left with limited time. Under any condition, the exam should not be held until all board exams are completed. The proposed syllabus is more detrimental rather than helpful for us students. If the number of questions are to be increased then the time limit should be increased accordingly. More stress should be given to the class 12th syllabus rather than class 11th syllabus as many students still remain out of touch with the syllabus of the previous class. In the event of a common entrance exam being held in 2012 , the age limit should only be imposed from 2013 in order to give the unsuspecting and unprepared students another chance. This is a sincere request to change the syllabus according to the requirements of the students as per medical standards (really how much physics do you need to know to become a doctor?)

This is very unfair on the part of MCI to conduct common test from 2012, since the students were preparing from class XI based on west bengal board syllabus. Giving a new syllabus now 7 months prior to the exam is unfair for medical aspirants like us. Please implement it from 2013 and be fair to 2012 batch state board students.

it is so foolish to delete the human physiology part from the core syllabus of NEET. they have given more stress on physics and chemistry rather than biology.
It seems that they want the future MBBS students to concentrate more on botany than zoology. . . .anyways . . .if they include human physiology and delete some useless topics from physics and chemistry it would be better. . . .they should have prepared a syllabus which prepares a basement for MBBS. . .hope they understand. . . .parents, students and teachers should come forward!

The idea of neet exam is good but it is too late declaration as student of state boards have not sufficient time to prepare syllabus as lot of difference (40 to 50%)between state boards & core syllabus.also make sure to take exam in local language.
At last do not conduct exam in this year-2012.only conduct exam from 2013 or 2014 after giving sufficient time to student for preparation.

Sir, i am a student of west bengal board. Plz don’t start the common entrance from 2012. Because, in the new syllabus, there are much more things new to the students of state boards. We have not enough time in our hand to prepare for the new syllabus. If the common entrance will held in the very next year, the students of C.B.S.E and I.C.S.E will surely benifitted and state board students suffers the most. We, students are very much worried. Plz try to unterstand our situation. Plz see our syllabus and take a fare decision.

Dear Sir,
The idea of MCI to conduct common entrance test deserves accolades as it will benefit all medical aspirants who run from city to city appearing in various exams…
But the worst aspect of this declaration is the syllabus of zoology… I feel that a bunch of fools have devised this syllabus which lacks most of the essentials of zoology like animal physiology, detailed study of invertebrate types, embryology & concepts of evolution etc….To put it succinctly, in my entire teaching career spanning over 20 years I have taught several syllabi but have never seen such an absurd framing of zoology syllabus..
I request you to put our views across so that MCI officials do something to modify this ridiculous zoology syllabus…
Yours
Dr. S. Raza

Sir,
The draft copy of the syllabus of CET’2012. Is different from West Bengal H.S. Council. The student of West Bengal who have passed H.S. on 2011 have been preparing for JEE Medical West Bengal’2012 since last three years. The student of West Bengal H.S. Council who are appearing H.S. in 2012 and at the same time preparing for JEE’2012 Medical also since last two years. If at once the CET’2012 is implemented in West Bengal the student will be at a loss and be frustrated. No doubt CET is welcome but it should be implemented after the implementation of NEET syllabus in XI-XII and the common entrance test for under graduate M.B.B.S. should be implemented from 2014 as the student will be familiar with the new syllabus and system of exam.

Yours faithfully, Anil Kumar Ghosh

i welcome the stand on NEET exam which is going to conduct but the board must inform to all the states and collect all state opinion. If you are really stick to conduct the exam you have to inform the syllabus 18months before. so that all the states accordingly change the present syllabus as per your norms. I think it is better to start from 2013-2014 academic year.
also you have to specify all the reservation quota like NCC, HANDICAPED, SC/ST OTHER MINORITIES,NRI. etc. give clear picture and seat matrix and selection procedure and minimum requirements to all the above well before at least one year other than the syllabus.

sir,
it is unfair to conduct neet in our country without modifying many things. our country is with more of rural & lower socio-economic background population.
by this neet only the students with cbsc will be benefitted. the cbsc students are upper class people, where if they dont get admission in govt. college they go for self financing colleges by payment. the rural people studying in govt schools because they cann’t afford the fees at private schools should also be considered . education is every ones right. that cannt be biased . only education can uplift the society, their family , country . even now the rural people dont know about this neet and website / internet. otherwise youn would have received many objections for it.
to have neet is good , but before it you have to have common syllabus through out the country, so that everybody including the poor and rural candidates in the country will be benefitted start the common syllabus from 10th standard first next year to + 1 and so on . by three years you can establish common syllabus through out the country & all the candidates without any disparity will be ready and benefitted by the neet.
the examination must be in common language(english) and the state language

85% State reservation in medical seats in NEET against Constitution
Sir,
I want to draw your kind attention about few points for National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) in Undergraduate Medical Entrance throughout India.
1. In NEET – Undergraduate Medical Entrance there is a common syllabus, single exam, one result. Medical Council of India (MCI) has agreed to reserve 85% seats as State Quota when the demand raised by different stated Govts in MCI meeting.
In West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and some other states there were District-wise reservation for admission to a medical college which was struck down by Supreme Court on the ground that the object of the selection of candidate for the admission is to select the best possible talent from the entire state, having regards to efficiency required for medical profession. It is against Article 14 of Indian Constitution.
(Supreme Court Case : (i) Minor P. Rajendran vs State Of Madras & Others on 17 January, 1968. (ii) Dr. Pradeep Jain and Others Vs Union of India and Others ,Writ Petitions Nos. 6091, 8882-83, 9219 and 9820 of 1983, Civil Appeal No. 6392 of 1983 , EQUIVALENT CITATION – 1984-(001)-Scale-0894-SC 1984-(002)-LLJ-0481-SC 1984-(003)-SCC-0654-SC 1984-(003)-SCR-0942-SC 1984-AIR-1420-SC CORAM P. N. Bhagwati A. P. Sen Ranganath Misra DATE OF JUDGMENT – 22.06.1984 )
So State-wise reservation of 85% NEET – UG medical seats for admission in a medical college through NEET is against Article 14 of Constitution.
When there will be no state-wise reservation, in educationally backward states majority of seats in medical will be filled up by the brilliant students of other states. Provincialism will create a new problem. There will be a problem of law and order.
Article 14 in The Constitution Of India 1949
[ Equality before law The State shall not deny to any person equality before the law or the equal protection of the laws within the territory of India Prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth]

2. The recent published (dated 03/11/2011) Final Syllabus by Medical Council of India for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS courses across the country is not a uniform syllabus for 11th and 12th standard classes of all existing 10 + 2 Boards all over India The published syllabus for NEET in medical matches more or less 95% with CBSE 10 + 2 syllabus ; 60 – 80% matches with the others 10 + 2 boards of different states. As a result, CBSE Board students will get extra advantage in NEET-2012. It is bad-in-law.
Sudden implementation of this class 11th and class 12th syllabus (i.e. NEET syllabus) is not a right decision. Usually 2 years minimum is required for implementation a new syllabus. Only 150 days remain for preparation of medical Entrance(s) – 2012. Higher Secondary /Equivalent Board students are going to appear/already appeared their Test exams for Final Board Exams. NEET -2012 is just after final exam. How it is possible to cover new syllabus?

3. Since most of the CBSE schools are in metropolitan cities, what will be the dream / fate of rural students who are studying with state board syllabus. More metropolitan students will occupy the maximum seats in different medical colleges. Rural health system will go in danger due to lack of doctor.
